Paw REX SAYS: This is my first time in the Lake District and I went straight up Blencathra via Halls Fell Ridge! there were some rocky steep bits but most of it was easy enough.
I saw a lot of sheep, they smell funny

Rex in at the deep end here after nearly 7 hours in the car... We decide to tackle Blencathra via Halls Fell Ridge. It is hazy, chilly and breezy, but dry.
Caution is warranted on Halls Fell Ridge, but it is not particularly dangerous or overly difficult if taken sensibly (unlike Sharp Edge, which really is quite tricky).

Leaving Threlkeld on the path up to Blease Gill at around 12:30pm. Rex has never been to the Lake District before but he is eager to get cracking.

Although he would rather not, I need to put him on the lead very near to the start, and for most of this walk

The path ahead and seems to be quite straightforward...

Although seen closer up there are a lot of rocky sections

We take a short breather and look back at this part of the path

A quick rest in the wind,

and on the move again before we get cold

A bit of 'hands-on' for this rocky section

and then we squeeze through this narrow gap

Rex golden lab pleased to be at the summit of Blencathra, May 01, 2026

Et voilà! After a little more clambering the summit arrives all of a sudden

We take a quick look back at the top part of Halls Fell Ridge,

and then make our way to Atkinson Pike,

which is very close by (as is Mungrisdale Common - you can see the path here)

From Atkinson Pike a short detour E. allows for a good view of Scales Tarn

We don't hang around on the tops because of the weather,
and rapidly descend Blease Fell where Rex encounters sheep for the first time.
He is excited and intrigued but does not bark.
