Blea Water is a picture perfect body of water just to the East of High Street. It is the deepest tarn in the Lake District.
The setting is dramatic with cliffs rising steeply on three sides (High Street to the West, Riggindale Crag to the North and Pilot Crag to the South).
If you wish to walk to Blea Water, the simplest start point is Mardale car park.
For photographs, a perfect viewpoint in fine weather is from Blea Water Crag. NB: caution required, no path and steep drops. This sighting of the tarn from above is very dramatic, and parts of Haweswater are also in view.
