An odd day today, after a drop off in Penrith I thought we'd take advantage by driving to Haweswater. We had planned to climb High Street and Mardale Ill Bell, and particularly to view Blea Water and Small Water
However, unfortunately the weather was not with us and after 20 mins or so we decided not to continue.
This weather awaited us at Haweswater. The picture doesn't really do justice to how awful it was.
I'll take the risk of bad weather moving in mid-hike, but I don't like to start when it is like this
We returned to our accommodation in Threlkeld
However, by 2pm the rain had stopped so we took the opportunity to climb Blencathra via a different, shorter, route, hoping that the weather would hold
The tops are in cloud
as we look behind to Threlkeld

We approach the bizarrely-named

And behind at the path we have just climbed

Indy is waiting - Come On!
We make it onto the ridge
and are shortly at Blencathra summit
Not a soul is up here in the clouds
other than these two
The sun peeps through as we start our descent
Here is the vertical slate again
And a decent view of the fells behind Derwent Water
As we descend we can see our route up
A last drink from Blease Gill
This is a view of Gatesgill from our garden
Indy appears to be not tired at all - we'll see tomorrow!
