MWIS indicates that today the Eastern Fells might have acceptable weather in the afternoon, albeit with high winds.
However, the next two days are forecasted to be be very poor.
With this in mind we head to Dockray, initially to walk 'The Dodds', with the idea of adding Raise and White Side if we feel up to it
No one else believes MWIS, this parking area is completely empty at 1pm
We start off down the Old Coach Road
Fortunately there is a bridge here where the map says 'Ford', since there is no way we could have easily crossed the water
Indy says 'Stop taking pics' - Come on!
Indy doing one of her classic dance moves
The way ahead isn't steep, but it is long and very boggy
We arrive at Great Dodd. The wind is ferocious, it is difficult to keep our eyes open
We quickly make our way to this shelter
where we stop out of the wind for a quick break
The walking is like this - wide grassy paths
Watson's Dodd
A view down to Ullswater
The last 'Dodd' - Stybarrow Dodd. Indy's ears flapping in the wind
We arrive at the well-known 'Sticks Pass'.
Raise is straight ahead, Glenridding left (E), Legburthwaite right (W)
At the summit of Raise, the wind is still strong
A clear path to White Side
At the summit of White Side, we have to retrace our steps and join Sticks pass again
We deviate a little to see what is described on the map as White Stones.
It seems to be some white stones
Hart Side, the last summit of the day
This is the most impressive cairn we have seen today, and marks our turn sharp right
as we follow this wall almost to the end before cutting back
After another long slog through ankle-deep bog, this sign is about 20 mins before the end of the walk
Back at the car park, still no one to be seen
