Paw INDY SAYS: This was a tough walk all the way to Harrison Stickle. Stone steps and stony paths.
Then once up high we were on bouncy grass in the sunshine with nice cool air until the descent from Pavey Ark. I needed to cool down in Stickle Tarn, it was getting really warm

Another fine day is predicted and the iconic Langdale Pikes beckon. We plan a circular route that visits Stickle Tarn twice (you know why).

We are nice and early - I had read online that this car park fills up quickly

We start our ascent almost immediately

Come on !

And we arrive at Stickle Tarn - it was hard going

In fact, it was very hard going. NT have constructed a stone staircase path all the way to Stickle Tarn. We know they have good cause, but I don't personally like it because the path is entirely stone, which gives no relief to doggy paws. Admittedly, a lot of the Lake District is rocky, but on most routes there are grassy sections or soft turf to be found near the path. Not here.

and waits for me, she's nearly at the top

Round about now, I decide to cut today's hike short after Thunacar Knott. It is relentlessly hot - and Indy, particularly, is feeling it. We had allowed for a stroll to High Raise (L) and Sergeant Man. With even less effort from Thunacar Knott, Pavey Ark could have been included on the return. I decide to head straight back because although the climbing is over, we still have to make our way to Stickle Tarn and then down the stone staircase.

Mmm, I haven't done this for a while - on the way to Thunacar Knott

At last we are back at Stickle Tarn. Indy is excited!

After lunch and the usual, we look back at

Our route back in the full sun

We stop for a drink and cool down at Old Dungeon Ghyll and, although I am a little miffed at not including at least Pavey Ark, I think it was the correct decision.
Indy is fine, but the relentless heat and stone paths have made her more tired than usual.
